Figtree age care facility

Facilities

Security

We provide two very different but equally important forms of security at Fig Tree Point. One is emotional and the other is physical.

The emotional security we provide comes not only from our caring team but through security of tenure thanks to our ‘ageing in place’ philosophy. Our residents can feel secure in the knowledge that Fig Tree Point is their home and there will never be any reason they have to leave. Our residents don’t have to move home just because their care needs change.

Residents can also feel physically safe and secure at Fig Tree Point as we have video surveillance and lock the door at 7pm. Any residents returning home after this time can ring the outside night bell to be let in.

Accommodation

Fig Tree Point is a three-storey building with the different floors connected by lifts. The nursing home, hostel and extra service apartments occupy different parts of the Facility.

Our nursing home offers single and shared rooms with ensuite bathrooms, while the hostel offers individual rooms with ensuite bathrooms plus a kitchenette.

Our standard nursing home and hostel rooms are spacious, well furnished and allow residents to adjust the heating and air conditioning. Residents can come together in one of the many lounge rooms or relax on one of the large verandahs that run around the property.

Our extra service rooms are located in a separate wing and offer traditional styling that creates a rich, warm and comfortable atmosphere. All rooms have been fitted with electric recliner chairs, electric adjustable beds, reverse cycle air conditioning and smoke alarms. Quality carpet has been used throughout the living areas and sliding screens open on to spacious balconies that overlook the lake. In addition, each floor has a different colour scheme which gives them a unique appearance.

No matter what level of care our residents choose, the most important thing is that Fig Tree feels like home. This means we encourage residents to bring things they love such as photos and prints.

Recreational activities

We offer a range of recreational activities that encourage physical independence, friendship and a role in the wider community. Based on our residents' interests, our two full-time activities officers put together monthly activity programs that include:

  • bus trips
  • craft
  • concerts
  • pet therapy
  • bingo
  • board games
  • card groups.

However if residents simply want some time to themselves, we have many small, quiet areas inside including a well-stocked library and computer station. Outside, residents can sit on one of the wide shaded verandahs, enjoy the gazebo or catch the bus and do some shopping in Toronto.

Food

We have a monthly rotating menu plan that is overseen by a dietitian to ensure nutrition and hydration. We can cater to diabetic and other diet choices and residents can make suggestions for meals they’d like included.

Residents have 24-hour access to food and drink with our staff happy to prepare a light snack in between meals. Residents can also choose to have their meals served to them in bed or have lunch on the verandah or in the dining room.
