About us
Fig Tree Point is operated by Hunter Valley Care, a leading provider of aged care services in the region since 1981. Founded with the simple belief that people should be able to age with dignity, the company is run by two generations of the Proctor family. It is this strong family commitment that saw Fig Tree Point successfully complete its last triennial audit with The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency. Carried out in May 2006, the Facility met all 44 operating standards and is accredited to August 2009.
Our Philosophy
At Fig Tree Point we help our residents live as independent and active a life as possible within an environment that is secure and caring. Central to this is our ‘ageing in place’ philosophy. No matter what level of mobility our residents have, it is not the only thing that determines a person's level of care. With 55 low care rooms and 25 high care rooms, we want our residents to feel secure in the fact that Fig Tree Point is their home for as long as they want.
Care
When new residents come to Fig Tree Point we talk to them and their family about their physical and emotional needs. We then develop individual care plans that are reviewed regularly or when a resident’s needs change. Importantly, we do not have a high staff turnover which means residents can develop a rapport with individual team members. In addition, we provide 24 hour registered nursing care and a call alarm system in all the rooms.
Extra Service Status
Fig Tree Point is the only aged care provider in the Hunter region that offers extra service apartments. Granted by the Federal Government Department of Health and Ageing (DOHA), the status recognises an exceptionally high standard of accommodation, food and services. We currently offer 34 extra service rooms in a special wing. Some of the benefits of extra service include:
- All rooms have ensuite, kitchen and dining facilities and a private balcony with water front views.
- A la carte meals are prepared onsite by a chef.
- Services include a professional hair and beauty salon and hydrotherapy spa.
- Outdoor areas are specially designed for leisure activities and entertaining visitors.
Our Team
We know that moving into a new home is stressful. At Fig Tree Point our staff work closely with all new residents to help them settle in and reduce the stress. Our staff and pastoral care team are trained in providing emotional support to both residents and family members. We want our residents to feel Fig Tree Point is their home and they are part of a bigger family. Happily, we think they do, with one resident recently describing the emotional support we provide as “five star”.
